Job Summary:
The Linux Systems Administrator III is responsible for maintaining the Linux environment. This individual architects, engineers, installs, and configures the Linux environment and implements systems upgrades and patches as required. The Linux Systems Administrator III participates in disaster recovery efforts and performs system backups and restores. This individual must be an expert in all aspects of managing server environments.
Essential Functions:
Performs project coordination function for the evaluation, installation, monitoring, debugging, audits, and maintenance of server software on a variety of hardware platforms
Plans, documents, and communicates all changes to server hardware and software
Assists other IT teams in assessing the needs of the customer to determine the suitability of specific server hardware and software solutions
Confers with vendors, other IT teams, and customers to determine suitability of server software
Writes user documentation as appropriate
Install, tests, implements, and documents server operation system upgrades and enhancements
Prepares specification for server software and hardware systems that adhere to technical standards and ensures interoperability with other servers
Responds to emergency calls relating to server performance, diagnosis of problems, resolving problems, or calling upon appropriate technicians
Diagnoses server and operational problems and develops effective solutions
Maintains data integrity and security of server software
Monitors server software products and tracks server performance
Evaluates and documents placement of data or devices for the purpose of optimum server performance
Monitors server hardware and software resource utilization
Responsible for quality reviews and standards
Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
Participate in a 24/7 On-Call rotation
Participates in establishing and testing disaster recovery policies and procedures; completing backup/restores; maintaining disaster recovery documentation.
Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.
Experience and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field or equivalent IT work experience
At least 8 years of RedHat Enterprise Linux System Administration
Proven ability using expertise to solve complex problems under pressure
Effective communication (oral and written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Developing standards and documentation
Track record of successful accomplishments
Skills:
Apache/Tomcat
SQL
Blade server experience (Cisco, HP, IBM)
SAN/NAS Experience (EMC, IBM)
Strong LAN/WAN knowledge
Strong understanding of DNS and Active Directory
VMWare vSphere 4.x
RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.x , RedHat Network Satellite Server, RedHat Enterprise Virtualization, RedHat Enterprise Virtualization Manager, RedHat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor
